We are excited to share that the structural upgrades have all been completed at Station House, thanks in large part to a very dedicated crew of volunteers who worked alongside the contractor to achieve an incredible amount of improvement within the allocated budget. We want to thank Barclay Fletcher Contracting for helping us accomplish so much by donating a lot of labour and providing the necessary supervision and willingness to work with our volunteers.
So where does it go from here? The original plan was that AdvantageHOPE, along with its volunteer crew, would tackle the finishing work required to get the main floor to a baseline operational level, and then would coordinate and execute the physical move of assets from the current Visitor Centre & Museum site up to Station House in 2016. Additional upgrades would occur in future phases over a number of years. However, this plan has changed: Council has decided to make a further investment into Station House prior to the relocation in order to compress the timeframe for further improvements. A part of this strategy is formulating a grant application to the Rural Dividend Fund, which the District will coordinate and AdvantageHOPE will partner in. Until there is a decision on the grant application this fall, there will be no work happening at Station House, however Council remains committed to seeing the Visitor Centre & Museum relocated there.
One of the reasons there has been such a delay in getting an update out about the project is because of uncertainty around the path forward. That has now been resolved, and as the project shifts from a community project to a municipal project, project management will also logically shift from AdvantageHOPE to the District of Hope. AdvantageHOPE will stay engaged by providing input as requested, but leadership for the project going forward will be coming from the District of Hope. We are excited that Station House has been saved and continue to look forward to the grand opening of the new Visitor Centre and Museum there.
We want to invite our friends, partners and all the volunteers who have helped us and supported the Station House Project to celebrate reaching this milestone. Please join us from 4:00pm – 6:00pm on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at the Hope Visitor Centre at 919 Water Avenue for a BBQ!
